Sophistication, for one. Grenades, machine guns, flamethrowers, tanks, and airplanes were all used during both wars, but the technology was more advanced during WWII.
WWII saw the introduction of the nuclear bomb. Gas was deemed a cruel form of attack during WWI and so was not used during WWII. Also, instead of being limited to machine guns that required multiple people to maintain, the Germans had machine pistols that could be operated and maintained by an individual soldier. Another weapon developement was the bazooka, which was effective as a mobile artillery weapon, as opposed to the big guns that required several people to fire and were difficult to move around.
Hope that helps.

Germany had been mobilizing and preparing for war for years. They had built up their army and air force. The French and the British were starting from scratch. The German military forces were organized and trained the French and the British weren't. They had also developed the Blitzkrieg a completely new form or warfare. Blitzkrieg depended more on mobility and overwhelming the defenses in one particular area and using the air force to incapacitate the enemies ability to respond rather than sending huge numbers of men against large sections of the front. Also the Germans dealt with their enemies one at a time. The French and the British sat on their hands in the west for eight months while Germany consolidated in Poland. Which gave Germany plenty of time to turn their forces around 180 degrees and move it all to the French/Belgium border. Then the Germans pulled off a brilliant military plan that cut the French/British forces in two at the outset of the war in the west. After the breakthough at Sedan and Dunkerque there was nothing left in the French Army. Whatever morale they had in the beginning had evaporated.

WW1 had biplanes (one wing over another) made of wood and canvas, WW2 planes had one wing made of aircraft aluminum. At the end of WW2 jets were just beginning to be used.
WW1 had rifles which could jam up on you and stop working; you had to pull the bolt back and feed another bullet manually after firing. WW2 had automatic rifles which would feed another bullet into the firing chamber so you didn't have to stop firing. When you ran out of bullets, you replaced the empty magazine with a full one.
WW1 had simple tanks, mainly a large metal box with treads which was mainly used for carrying troops across a battlefield. In WW2, the focus shifted from using it as a transport to an assault weapon, and a large cannon was mounted on it.
WW1 had telegraph and human messengers called 'runners'. WW2 had radio.
The submarine began to come into its own as a weapon in WW2. The German navy built a large fleet of them, referred to as 'U-boats'.
The nuclear bomb was first used in WW2; it has not been used since it was dropped on Hiroshima and Nagasaki. It ended the war between Japan and the Allies.
Generally, weapons in WW2 were more standardized, better built and were more often manufactured in a factory compared with weapons used in WW1.
