In Modern History we got talking about Republicanism in Australia and it just got me thinking again. I'm all for a republic nation - and I think it's well overdue. The class was divided.

I don't believe that we should we remain loyal to a country whose government was responsible for the dispossession of our Indigenous people. There's more, but I don't want to ramble.

What I'm asking for, is your opinion :)

The Royalists would say there is no harm belonging to the Commonwealth... in fact I never quite understood what the benefits actually are...

Yes, by all means, Australia should be a Republic - in my opinion Monarchy and all it entalis ia a thing of the past, and downright unethical!

I don't really think it is necessary to become a Republic. Especially on the terms the politicians wanted...for them to pick the President. THAT certainly wasn't going to fly...more jobs for the boys. And in their Republic the President would only be a figurehead...much like the Queen is now...but would cost billions to change everything like currency...parliamentary proceedings...etcetc AND they wanted to change OUR flag. So NO...no Republic...especially not the Banana Republic the politicians wanted.

Why fix something that is not broke. We live in a paradise compared to other countries. This country was originally settled out of England and our constitution is based on the English model . Keep in mind this constitution was set up and given to us by a group of people who had a decent honest outlook with moral values with the entire welfare of our people in mind. Today's politicians cannot be trusted to give us a constitution that has the same values ours is not perfect but remember it did sack a Prime minister deemed to be off the track and did sack a State Government many years ago in New South Wales .EVen you have to admit todays pollies are all about whats in it for me.~~
