I am interested in becoming a classroom behavior management specialist. I had completed my associates years ago in early childhood education and am planning to go back for my bachelor's and then on to my Master's certificate. My question is, which would be better for my bachelor's..finish the degree in education or in psychology? Any input from special ed teachers or people in a similar career field is greatly appreciated! Thanks

Great info from everyone! I have found a wonderful program that will give me a bachelor's in developmental psychology, then will take a Master's in pysch along with a master certificate in Behavorial Intervention for Autism and then take my ACBE certification. Someone asked about my personal experience...I have a 10 yr old son with autism and we have used extensive behavior modification programs with him. Thanks again to everyone!

Get into a program that offers special education with an ABA track. I don't know where you are at, but Temple University offers this type of program. University of Florida is probably the best program in the country for Behavior ANalysis. University of Kansas... there are others. Also, get your BCBA. You need a masters to sit for the exam, but you can sit for the BCABA exam with an undergraduate degree (you need coursework in ABA though, and supervision). See the BACB website. This will help you greatly.

Start out with a course in ABA for teachers or Basic Principles of ABA, and latch on to a professor who can point you in the right direction.

If you have an M.Ed, BCBA, you will be able to work in any school as a behavior specialist/analyst.

Wow, that is a good question. I am an ESL teacher and can see the benefits of both and edcuation and a psychology degree. I would say education first, start teaching, then consider psychology. Do you have much experience in the area of classroom behavior management? Because if I were hiring someone from that field, it is certainly something I would be looking for way above and beyond educational credentials.

I am a board certified behavior analyst. I did a masters in special ed and a masters in psychology. I am now working on my doctorate in bahavior analysis. I own an agency which provides behavior consultaion to school districts. I would suggest a bachelors in education and a masters in psych. After that you should consider board certification through the BACB (Behavior Analyst Certfication Board). Good Luck!

(A SPECIAL ED TEACHER)

I'd go with the education degree and go ahead a get your license too. I'm not familiar with a classroom behavior management specialists, but The "No Child Left Behind Act" and the "Highly qualified Teacher Act" are making special education teaching jobs plentiful, you shouldn't have any trouble getting a job.

Good luck

there is a great demand for both special education teachers and behavior specialists. i would imagine psychology for the field, but you know to check all of this out before you reenter university. my ba is in social science, but i decided to go into special education and thats what my masters is in and i only did one course on behavior management. definitely more money to be made as a behavior specialist, you would probably work as a consultant to a school district, test students, do observations, and make recommendations. or, you could have a classroom. you could also work for non public schools or contract out on your own. an interesting (but tough job for me!) field and the best of luck to you!

As a third grade instructor, i don't have a difficulty with pupils going to the bathing room for my area until eventually i'm in direction of a lesson OR we merely went as a classification. Boys particularly circulate into the bathing room with the class just to play and then for sure ought to relatively pee presently after. i do no longer enable it then. in step with probability that's what occurred alongside with your son and he merely did no longer comprehend that replaced into the reason his color replaced. i could additionally choose to function that first graders can and do act up whilst unsupervised. Bullying happens the main whilst a instructor isn't there to oversee (recess, bogs, bus stops). the subsequent time you have a convention with the instructor, i could ask her if there can not be some undemanding floor got here across alongside with your son's specific subject. Peeing should not be a privilege, it may well be something one does as a necessity. in the experience that your son relatively desires to pee and can't carry it until eventually the subsequent bathing room ruin, he must be allowed to circulate. If and provided that he starts to abuse this difficulty, then the colour ought to alter.
