I think its because in ancient Greece and several such societies the vast majority of men had sexual relations with another man during their youth, and they married only when they reached 30. Furthermore, they carried on their male bonds even after that, and marriage was considered more a social duty, and for reproduction.

Your teacher is talking out of his/hers ****. Gay does not mean Greek. Homosexuality in Ancient Greece was not considered homosexuality, but a result of a homosocial setting where the mentor/pupil relationship could stretch into the sexual. With no sexual taboos like we have nowadays, they were simply being natural in accorandance with their nature.

Read the Illiad - Ancient Greece was a seriously homosexual place. Sparta used homsexuals as shock troops when things wer egoing badly in war.
Anal intercourse has been known as the "Greek Way" for millenia.
Back then "Gay" meant happy - it's a mistake to overlay ancient history with 21st Century slang and sensibilities.

you definately heard wrong.

O.E. Crecas (pl.), early Gmc. borrowing from L. Græci "the Hellenes," from Gk. Grakoi. Aristotle, who was the first to use Graikhos as equivalent to Hellenes ("Meteorologica" I.xiv) wrote that it was the name originally used by Illyrians for the Dorians in Epirus, from Graii, native name of the people of Epirus. But a modern theory (put forth by Ger. classical historian Georg Busolt, 1850-1920), derives it from Graikhos "inhabitant of Graia" (lit. "gray"), a town on the coast of Boeotia, which was the name given by the Romans to all Greeks, originally to the Gk. colonists from Graia who helped found Cumae (9c. B.C.E.), the important city in southern Italy where the Latins first encountered Greeks. It was reborrowed in this general sense by the Greeks. Meaning "unintelligible speech, gibberish" is from 1600. Meaning "Greek letter fraternity member" is student slang, 1900..

i am greek. i hope that answers your question.

>Greece under no circumstances had to handle Christian impact on subculture, that >created homophobia , like us individuals did, nonetheless. you comprehend not something approximately greek, are not you? Greece is extremely non secular (Christianity of direction) and alongside with Cyprus and few different eastern international places, the main homophobic in Europe. Please not that i'm speaking with regard to the international places oftentimes (regulations for/against gays etc.).

There is a version of homosexual intimacy that is referred to as "Greek" (as opposed to "French"), and it may be on this matter that either you or your teacher has become confused. This particular activity has been repeatedly depicted on ancient Greek pottery, and so I assume that's where the nationalistic association arose.

the Greek of past fell ruled the world but as Sodom did and Rome too fell in lust forincation and in homosexuality
today it is a wonderfull new country
in the Greek language is where this was recorded= Romans chapter 1 "And being unthankful, the worshipped the created rather than the created, and were given over to reprobate minds to do that which is unseamly male with male and female with female."
ICor 6:9-13 and such WERE some of you but you have been cleansed by the blood of Jesus."

there is hope in becoming truely happy the real definition for Gay

well Jesus said "My sheep hear my voice and follow me." John 10

the problem is we have to do what the good shepherd Messiah Jesus says "I love you repent quickly from your sin (even one lie), Behold I knock on your heart door if you hear my voice and opent he door, I will come in and begin a fellowship with you and you with me, if you repent and ask me in." Revelation 1:1, 3;19&20 and chapters 19-22 about the joy of heaven in salvation, and the agony of hell weeping forever for those that refuse the voice of Messiah Jesus.

As a Jew-I come to messiah from the prophecies Isaiah 52:13-53:12 as I gave this man but he refused to listen- "He will lay down his life as a lamb and make atonement for our sins." will we listen?
LET JESUS HELP YOU, REPENT OF YOUR SINS AND BE NOT ONE OF THOSE SPOKEN OF -IN THE LAST DAYS MANY WILL SPEAK EVIL OF THEIR RULERS AND CALL GOOD BAD AND BAD GOOD.
why not make good music like Amazing grace sung of the one Messiah Jesus thanks
Keep working on the Greek -straight, thanks David

Ancient Greeks were known to practice homosexuality, both males and females. The term "Greek" has come to mean anal sex, in some contexts. Just as "French" means oral sex, in those kinds of contexts. Greek doesn't mean gay, specifically, but they are the ones who usually practice that kind of sex.

Ομοφυλόφιλος
please tell your teacher that is the ONLY version of "Gay" in Greek, and that perhaps he has it backwards.
Also yes it is obvious you are not "Gay" dear for you are asking this question to begin with.

Just who do you mean by your "teacher" anyways?
