Yes - - - sentiment against Canada could be stirred up with a vigorous campaign, it is already cool in many circles to Bash Canada and if it comes down to either a security issue, that long undefended border, or a bigger issue such as a Godless Canada allowing Abortions & Gay Marriages & Drug Use, the real reason for attacking Canada will be its mineral wealth, use of the Northwest Passge, gas & oil fields, and fresh water.
Oh and for those that don't know much about history, during the American Revolution and again the War of 1812 a major goal was to annex Canada. During 1840's and 50's many Southern States wanted to attack Canada for providing freedom for Negroes.
More doubtful about Mexico - - - Americans can scarcely tolerate the number of Hispanics in America, they would not want several million more.
Peace.....
(been trying to steer America clear of waging war against Canada, can I get any allies?) -- -- -- Ck out the film Canadian Bacon with John Candy....

Hi "Dem,"
I don't think so. The last thing the USA wants is to be saddled with Mexico's problems. Poverty, education, infrastructure -- Oh, I could go on and on. No, the US wouldn't touch Mexico if the Mexicans begged for admission to the Union.
As for Canada -- an interesting story... Some years ago when it looked like Quebec was going to drop out of the Canadian Federation, and the whole thing might fall apart, the US State Department commissioned a study to look at the ramifications of the remaining Canadian provinces petitioning to be admitted into the Union. The report concluded that the only province that would make a good state was Ontario. The others, the report concluded, would be net takers of tax revenues rather than generators. So, I doubt seriously if the USA would be interested in taking on Canada's problems either.
Cheers.

As has been mentioned, Manifest Destiny was the doctrine that the United States was ordained by God to stretch from the East Coast to the West Coast.
Since Mexico and Canada would be North to South, it doesn't really fall under the concept. Additionally, considering the current political climate, any talk of the nation being ordained by God for something just wouldn't float.
It is possible that segments of those nations might one day petition the U.S. for statehood, but unlikely.

The United States already tried to annex Canada and Mexico. Canada didn't work, and we obtained a large section of Mexico's territory. We now call it California and the American Southwest.
We're no longer trying to conquer the entire continent or hemisphere. I think we can put the "manifest destiny" issue to rest.

No!! Where did you ever get that nonsense?? Manifest Destiny called for settling and claiming the lands and territories from the East Coast To the West Coast, NOT from north to south.

The way thing are going, it's more likely that the US will lose the Southwest to Mexico again. There is a Mexican movement called La Raza that is actively working for this.
