Okay this is complicated. I work for a charity many years ago they registered a domain name but used a web designer to do it for them. A few years later I started to work for the charity and with the help of another web designer created a new website. The original web designer was phoned and he re-pointed the address to this new website. Now a newer website has been designed and I need the original address re-pointing but the original web designer has died, but before he died he re-registered the original address for a further 3 years. How do I get the address re-pointed to the new address?

Can you not put a redirect web page on your 'old, new' website to your 'new, new' website so that in effect you're re redirecting the traffic? Most browsers are so fast you'd hardly notice. There's loads of info. on the web about redirect HTML pages.

Do a 'whois' lookup on the web address to find out where it's registered. Then contact the registrar and explain the situation. If you can prove that you should own the domain, they will be able to transfer it to you for a small fee.

You can do the whois search here:

Just enter the domain name (without the www) into the search box.

Try Googling for the designers name. If he designed a website he probably put his name in one of the meta tags somewhere.
