We just found out (bombshell!) we are expecting no. 3. Other kids will be 20 months and 3 1/2. We are faced with a problem of how to transport them all. I have an Astra and have found out that airbag can't be disabled. Cars like Zafira don't seem practical because I have to climb over all the luggage and go in through the boot to get to the back seat if I have fixed car seats on seats 3 and 4. I don't know what to do. How does everyone else manage. Anybody out there with this problem. How did you solve it?

Many of the small mpvs, cars like Renault's Scenic and Citroen's Picasso have three separate seats in the rear each with a full lap&diagonal belt so there shouldn't be a problem getting three restraints side-by-side-by-side.

Remember too that you have the option to carry one of the forward facing children in the front seat - correctly restrained in an appropriate restraint of course. This will certainly be an option when it's only the driver and three children travelling.

It might also be more practicable when two adults travel to put one of the forward facing children in the front and the adult in the back, between or alongside the other two.

Essentially it's a matter of trying all the different permutations to see which is safest and most comfortable. Remember that it's only the newborn child in the rearfacing restraint that may not travel in the front seat unless the airbag's deactivated. Other occupants, including either of the older children in forward facing seats may legally and safely ride in the front - for the children it's good practice to move the car seat back on its runners.

It is not a problem my sis has 3 kids they have a ford galaxy and we often go to our holiday home in France in fact last time we were 4 adults & 2 kids + luggage for all of us and as the car has four doors so we never had to clamber over any luggage at any time during the trip cos the rear seats fold down like in a normal 2 door car and it has enough full seat belts for all passengers before the ford they had a peugot people carrier that was a bit nicer than the ford but my bro in law got ripped off when he purchased it as when he put it in for a new M.O.T the guy told him that he was sure it had been clocked as it needed so many new parts I think his favorite personell carrier was his old espace the original shaped one but my sister did not like driving it because she kept on moaning that she could not see the end of the bonnet ! So any people carrier will suit your needs !

I've got a citeron xsara picasso and fit 3 car seats easily in to the back as there are 3 5-point seat belts.

my brother has a zafira and he fits all 3 into the back seat without having to use the boot seats as the set up is the same

you're going to have to have them al;l in the back seat unless you do want to use the boot seats.

you manage with what you've got, one of my friends has an old fiat panda and 4 kids and they all fit in!!

I got a Renault Megane Scenic. Three proper seats with belts and good boot space. Lots of hidden places for storage.

Instead of waiting for somebody to suggest a 4x4/suv/jeep, just go and buy one and worry about the whiney treehuggers later.
