Which people? The French sick & tired of war willing to endure life under Naxi bootheels rather than fight. The British grimly determined to fight for abstract principles such as freedom & democracy. The Dutch smug in their neutrality shocked by treachery sollem growing more defiant.
The Americans goaded into war - - - angry determined to rid the World of Evil. The Russians equally determined, bruised bloody but unbent , certain they can turn the war to their advantage.
The Germans riding a seesaw of emotion at first exhberant, then stunned by the realization they were getting their @ss kicked grimly determined to inflict as much damage before dying.

Who else? Not truly knowing what you want will quit

Depends on the people. If you're asking about Americans, they were very supportive of the war. Perhaps more supportive of that war than of any other war in US history (excluding the revolutionary war because it took place before the nation was founded).

After the vicious surprise attack on Pearl Harbor, the American people strongly supported our involvement in WWII. The day after the bombing at Pearl Harbor, thousands of young men flooded recruiting offices to enlist in the armed services. Proof positive of the strong support.

Americans were very upset by Pearl Harbor and angry at the Germans and Japanese.
