Haven't done much research on the issues but heard a few bits here and there. Apparently he's made some comments about supporting full EU membership for France - which apparently has some part of the constituency up in arms especially for labor reasons. He's made some promise to reduce unemployment by a few percentage points but I don't see how he will manage that and then promise to abolish some of the labor protections when they pass/adopt all of the EU rules. I know his father was an immigrant from Hungary so I don't know how that plays with the French especially with former eastern bloc countries exporting cheap labor out west, the EU labor rules, etc. I understand from press reports in US papers that he supports the US's stance on Iraq and not sure if he expressed any concerns. And generically I've read that he is a conservative but not as far left as the "pen" candidate - don't know his full name and not sure if spelled it correctly. The protests I think will die down after a few weeks but we'll see.

Poor France, I have sympathy with great French people-both the ones who live today, such as Le Pen and Brigit Bardot, and those who lived in other times, like Victor Hugo and Alferd Garrie.

I don't care for the French or their new president. They are a bunch of cowardly, America-bashing snobs. Let them call on some other country the next time they are invaded!

He has to be an improvement. He may prove to be the Ronald Reagan of France and get them to reverse their national pestimism and economic decline.

For France, he's better than the alternative.

In this country, he'd be a pretty far-left liberal. Read his campaign material and speeches.
