The Independent tells us the defenders thereof want to make it a right for people with, say, a terminally illness to say 'tarrah' and jump on the 02.40 to estado de la luz. But wait...isn't suicide one of those 'crimes' you can 'get away' with, in a manner of speaking - if of course you succeed. Criminal punishment sure will not deter the determined...if someone has a cancer that will not leave, or has up to 20 grand mal epileptic fits a day, which even the strongest drugs won't retard, an ASBO (which is what the Brits. tend to hand out) won't mean nowt - it even will make people even more determined. If people want to do it, they will, won't they?

Yes, Emma...even Rottweilers who savage wee children even get it - with dignity, like! The UK goes all American when it comes to punishing animals (who commit 'crimes'), but homo sapien who has the sort of illness all the drugs/therapy in the world will not retard have to stay on this earth as sick and fed up as (some of) their relatives are. Surreal!

...nor war, Fraginal - but am I speaking out of turn, with our most 'mature' countries of the world feeling irked without one?

Quas...some time ago some odd court in Wales gave a woman an ASBO for attempting suicide. Okay - she had tried it 35 times before, so would it be conceited to say there are some who indeed spoil it for people who told to claim their DLA and other benefits and give thanks - irregardless of what pain they still may feel.

Euthanasia is, in my opinion, a basic human right - in the end, it's YOUR life, no-one elses' and if you're suffering from a painful, drawn-out terminal illness, why shouldn't you have the right to end your pain and misery....?

Several years ago (and the memory still haunts me to this day), my Uncle (god rest him) was suffering from terminal lung cancer - I saw a perfectly healthy individual dwindle away to a wasted skeleton of a man, racked with continuous pain (never mind the medication) - there were many times, if he'd been given the choice, that he would have ended it, but NO - for some sick (ethical, my backside) reason, he had to be kept alive

Perosnally, if yo look at all the illnesses in the world, some of the worst being cancer, I couldn't imagine living with that, the way it literally eats you alive.

I'm for euphanasia in any kind. Everyone preaches that everyone has free will and can do what they want with their lives, so why shoud choosing to die (euphanasia or suicide) be any different?

While there are laws in some places that have made suicide illegal, there is little in the way of actually stopping them, because once suicide has been done, there isn't any way they can be punished.

I don't care if no one here disagrees with me here, My thoughts on euphanasia are valid to a certain degree, and it is only the government who seems to have a problem with euphanasia.

I have to agree with Emma. Why can we put our pets out of their misery and humans have to suffer horribly sometimes? I watched my mom die of pancreatic cancer and she was moaning in pain through massive amounts of Morphine. She only lasted 2 days like that. But why did she HAVE to? If a person is in that condition and they made the statement that they do NOT want to be kept alive with extreme measures, then why can't a doctor just give them a shot or something to help them go and end the suffering?? I am a Christian and a believer in God. So, I know I should say that God had a reason to take her when he did. But I see no REASON in that reasoning. It was her time to go....no doubt. But she didn't have to suffer like that.

The problem is some conditions become so debilitating that, at the point where it becomes unbearable, an individual is unable to take his/her own life without assistance. That is still a crime and is quite frequently enforced.

It's a tough call, helping someone you love to end the pain by enabling them to take their own life can mean a lengthy legal battle and a possible jail sentence.

It's a horrible can of worms.

yes they will if they are determined - it totally think that you should be allowed to make a decision to terminate your own life. people should be allowed to die with dignity - we do this to animals but not our own...

Euthanasia must not be allowed because it is killing a person.
