When you make the appointment, ask if you can see a female doctor. I do it all the time.

Worth getting a female doctor for what? If you have problems with your car I suggest you request a mechanic. I suppose you can ask for a female mechanic. I haven't seen many female mechanics. You wouldn't phone a medical line for a car mechanic. Although there is a possibility a female doctor may be able to diagnose a fault in your car. A car has a body but it's not quite like a human body.
I hope this solves your problem and help you with your decision.
As for your mum if she doesen't know how to make a phone call I think she should read the directions that comes with the phone. Usually there is buttons with numbers on the face of the phone. If she wants to dial for example 59821309, then all she has to do is this. With what ever finger she feels comfortable with press the corresponding number she sees on the button that's situated on the face of the phone and she should get through as long as she had a dialing tone to begin with. I know all this sounds complicated and a little daunting at first but after a while I'm sure your mum will get used to it and then she can show you, in turn you can pass this valuable information onto your friends and relations, you will be very popular in no time. By the time you are finished I think they will be looking for any doctor, male or female to take care of you and your mum.
I happy you know where you live. England. I feel there is a glimmer of hope for you yet

It depends on how important it is to you to have a female doctor. Male doctors know all the same stuff! EXCEPT they haven't experienced women's hormones etc etc so can't know exactly what it feels like. Can't see a problem really. If you're very shy or embarrassed just ask to see a female doctor when you call to make the appointment. Don;t worry hun, - we've all been there and no-one ever died of embarrassment!

I wouldn't have said that you have to ring a medical line. if it's just for a normal doctor's appointement at your local surgery, just ask for a lady doctor when making the appointment or even when you get there if you're desperate. However, if you are going to see specialists, like at a hospital or clinic, you should probably ring in advance to request a female because they won't have as much time to fuss about.

Hi i have always preferred to see a female doctor for womens health and have always attended the family planning clinic. The one i attend only has female doctors and nurses and they deal with all female problems and the doctors are specialised in family planning and womens probs. I would suggest you try them. They are always very helpful and informative. By the way they do advise on periods etc not just the pill and sex related problems.

As far as I know, all doctors surgerys have male and female doctors. I prefere to see different doctors for different things. All GPs major in a particular area of medicine when they're at medical school so find out if one of the doctors at your surgery has specialist knowledge in the area of medicine you require. I actually see a male doctor for some womens health issues. In the practice leaflet for the surgery it told me what each doctor specialised in and I chose based on that and not on which sex of doctor I went to.

when you call to make an appointment, just ask to see a female doctor. There's no need to call a medical line - I dont know where your mum got that from.
If it makes you feel more comfortable then yes, it is worth getting a female doctor.

Try ringing your surgery like when you normaly book an appointment and just say "is it possible to request a female doctor"?it really is that simple, but bearing in mind this is England, you may have to wait longer for an appointment!

I'm not real big on referrals, as I like to pick my own doctors. What I would advise doing is just to call around to different female doctors and ask them about their practice and themselves. It's always worked for me! If you're not comfortable doing that, ask one of your relatives to give you the name of some of the doctors they use. There are many ways to find the right doctor for you!
Good Luck!

Well if you are allready registered with a surgery and they have female doc's then when you phone for an appt just say you would like to see a female doctor. If you are not registered with a surgery then just phone the local ones and ask if they have any female docs then register with one that has.
