Try a tea with St. John's Wort or camomille or use St. John's Wort pills (pharmacy, without receipt). In addition, you can rub some handwarm peppermint oil onto your belly, lower stomach, then put on the heating pad. That soothes and the oil relaxes the deeper muscles.

My sister-in-law sleeps with a hot water bottle when she has cramps. Another thing I know some people do is to massage their uterus. I know that sounds strange, but you can sort of rub it through the stomach wall stroking down toward your pelvis to assist in the motion the uterus is trying to accomplish. The cramps are from the uterus contracting to expel the uterine lining. The lining is what we collect in a maxi pad or other catch. It's just really rich blood that would have nourished an egg if you had gotten pregnant that month, but some people feel the uterus contracting very badly. If you have access to a hot tub, like at the YMCA, that's what I like to do. The moving swirling water sort of massages the stomach muscles and I guess maybe accomplishes the same uterine massage without having to push in on your stomach so much and the heat really helps me, but I agree no bathtub or water bottle has ever done it for me.

Seriously, try ICY/HOT if the heating pad isn't working....my suggestion was going to be heat and ball up tightly, but it isn't working on you. Have you tried soaking in a tub of HOT water? Or putting a wet cloth under the heating pad???

For next time try "Women's Comfort," for during your period, and between periods, "Women's Treasure." They are excellent.
Also see your gynecologist and ask if you could have the newly defined condition that gives women bad cramps. I've forgotten the name, but the drug company that makes the medicine has been advertising it lately.
Another question to as is if you could have fibromyalgia, which increases the pain of cramps.

NO HEAT !!!!!
ice it first .... that may help things let go.
heat brings blood rushing into the muscle...doesn't
help....they are locked in spasm or contraction and need to be "reset".
Calcium and potassium may help too...they are the chemical expression of muscle movement.
(very over simplified).
DO NOT STRETCH...think rubber band fresh out of the freezer.....ow !

lay on your bed on your back, and slowly bring one knee at a time up to your chest. Use your hands to hold the knee to bring it up. This is a good exercise. It gives you relief...faster than drugs !
