Let's say the accident was minor, just two cars involved, no parties injured and minor damage to both cars.

*Bearing in mind that you would have to state it was not your fault and this would involve 'creating' an alternative version of events in your accident statement to your insurers.

Yes I would. Why should that person have to drive around a damaged car, then lose a good bit of money when he trades it in or sells it in the future because some idiot hit his car, and then LIED about it??

People should have more character and decency than that. Admit it when it's your fault.

I was involved in a car accident which was not my fault, the damage was minor to both vehicles, I took details and said you pay for the damage and we wont need to contact insurance companies. That was my mistake the other person later denied involvement, I contacted my insurers, they wanted to why I did not contact them initially.
On inspection at a garage it was found the damage to my could not have been caused by me driving into another car and then after using a solicitor, the other person finally admitted liability. How the admission affected their future premiums, I do not know.

the other day i was involved in a minor accident with dude, i asked to personally pay the cost of repairs if any turned out though there was none visible since the impact happened at no more than 5km/h. he tried to fix me with some paint peels all over the front bumper and sides to which i pointed out that didn't look fresh and in any case it appeared like some bad unprofessional paint job previously done on it to which he finally admitted. after a couple of months i got a letter from his insurence. looked like he was trying to take advantage of the situation to fix up his car real good. since then i ain't admitting nothing and let the police report talk and i will always try making a statement in my favor.

If the cancellation is on 6-10, and the accident was on 6-08, you're OK. Turn it in to the insurance company. If it was canceled before the 10th, you're in trouble.

The advice on my insurance documents is not to acknowledge blame in any circumstances but to simply take the other drivers details and report the matter to them.

When at fault, admit the error and pay for the damages.

I'd have to come clean whatever the consequences, because the guilt would kill me.
