The Caribs - whether the Taino were different is somethinkg we will now never know.
There are still a few caribs left in a sort of human safari park somewhere there.

There were many diffenent tribes enjoying the Caribean Islands before us.
The:
Arawak, Carib, Ciboney, Galibi, Garifuna, Igneri, Lucayan, and the Taino.
The Carib are more well known obviously.

The Carib Indians...thus the name. Also Taino Indians. Perhaps more that I am not aware of such as the Indians of the Caribbean coast of Mexico.
And yes I am aware that the term "Indian" is not really correct, it's just easier to type.....lol.

I agree with d4dave, and would just add that something like 90% of the indigenous population died following the Spanish invasions as a result of contracting European diseases to which they had no natural immunity.
