My parents got me a driving instructor back in January. At first, i thought it was pretty good. Then for the last 2 months, he's been bailing out on my lessons even though my parents paid $500 for it. It makes me so angry, especially since my parents aren't doing anything and they're too whimpy to even teach me how to drive let alone sit in the car with me. The instructor keeps telling my parents that I'll pass for sure during my first driving test. Being mad, and feeling totally unprepared for a driving test, I don't know if I should purposely mess up just so my parents would get the message and start doing what they need to do, go drive with me. Also, I suspect there's something weird going on since I found out that he takes all his students to a DMV that's about a 2 hour drive from where I live. Why would someone do that when they could take the test at a DMV 5 blocks from my house? I'm totally lost and don't know what to do.

If he's bailing out on lessons that's one thing - if that's the case your parents should be talking to him because his contract is with them. However, the thing with taking a student to a specific DMV could be a valid deal. When I learned to drive I had an instructor, and he took me to a DMV in a small outlying town instead of having me test in my own town (which had too many one-way streets for his liking and too many possible traps for a new, nervous driver) or in the larger city nearby (faster speed limits, brand new test route).

He took me to this particular town because he had once been an examiner there and knew the route like the back of his hand and knew what the examiners would be looking for. When we would go practice, he would take me through the route exactly and coach me, driving his car, which is the vehicle I tested in.

I scored 97 of 100, by the way. It was worth it.

Hi,

don't blame your parents...they've done what they thought was best-paid for a professional to teach you to drive. Despite what you say, being taught by a relative is rarely as good as being taught by a professional.

You complain they are 'whimpy' because they won't teach you? How wimpy are you, when, despite all your concerns you have not mentioned to them any of it?

The far-distant DMV may just be a way to get an extra dollar or two out of the 'testees'. If that is the case why are you so 'whimpy' that you haven't challenged the instructor? If he has a reasonable excuse for this, your mind will be satisfied, won't it? If not, then you can at least challenge him.

If your instructor feels you are able to pass your test, why on earth would you want to 'mess it up'? If you pass you'll be rid of him for ever.

If you want your parents to 'get the message' give them the 'message'.

Parents, like other people, are not mindreaders, think yourself lucky you have parents who care enough about you to seek professional instruction for this very important life skill. If you don't tell them you have fears or worries, how are they to know?

If he is 'bailing out' on your lessons then your parents should know...he's been paid, he should honour his contract.

Don't be a wimp yourself, tell them!

Grrrh!

Cheers and safe driving,

BobSpain

Hopefully your folks signed a contract with the guy- x number of lessons for x number of dollars. If he didn't abide by the agreement he's in breech of contract and your folks could sue him in small claims court. If the agreement was just verbal, then it'll be hard to prove he didn't fulfill the agreement (unless you DIDN'T learn how to drive....). Either way, I wouldn't worry about it if your parents aren't. They're the ones out the money, not you.
If you feel you got short-changed on the lessons, by all means complain to the parents- let them know you're upset and you want the instructor to do some more lessons. Beyond that, there's not much else to do........
Just read the manual and practice driving as much as you can.

Good Luck!

I had an instructor like this and he informed me i could in no way bypass my attempt. while you're with a business employer then get on the telephone and ask to alter instructors. If no longer and you somewhat can no longer stick it out then pretend something, like which you should circulate away for a jointly as or would be shifting homestead (i'm helpful you may think of of something) and ask on your final money lower back.

First report the driving instructor to the Better Business Bureou. Then find a friend you can trust to teach you how to drive. I tought my 2 brothers how to drive, and they passed their driving test on the first try, and their written test on the first try with no problems.

Get a close friend to help you learn. As long as his/her license is valid. It sounds to me that he must bbe 'paying off' the Instructor at the distant DMV. 'That is why he is so assured that you will pass.
