I am about to buy large hdd for my computer (320gb). Now I need to divide it in to several paticions so I can easly manage my files. The question is: How many particions and how large they should be?

Partition Magic is good program for dividing hdd into parts, also you can use fdisk.
I have 320 gb too, i divided into 3 part ,
1- System 80Gb
2- Music 80Gb
3- Movies 160Gb

It depends what OS you plan to install on it.

For Windows, you should have at least 20Gb in the system (C:\) partition if you plan to install applications there as well. Less if you're going to install the apps somewhere else. The other partitions are up to you. Be aware that the larger the partitions, the less efficiently Windows will store files.

For Linux, you should have at least 2Gb in root ( / ), maybe 10Gb in /usr, a swap partition equal in size to your RAM, 1Gb in /boot, 2Gb in /var, unless you intend to run some servers, and the rest can be whatever you want (but you must have a /home partition).

I know nothing about MACOS.

Remember the more partitions you have the smaller the hard drive will become as each partition uses up space. So I would only partition it into 2.

you have to set one as master and one as slave
