This sounds like a homework question but it isn't. I'm just trying to remember how to do that old problem where you count the number of ways to make change. Like how many different possible ways are there to make 87 cents or $1.12 using only change.

Just to clarify, I'm looking for the derivation of a combinatorial forumla for this....nothing fancy. If you can't derive it, then just the formula will do. Thanks in advance.

1 p + 17 n,p + 8 d,p + 153 d,n,p + 3 q,p + 108 q,n,p + 28 q,d,p + 39 q,d,n,p = 357 for $0.87

You go through the possibilities. Start by putting in as many quarters as you can, then go through the possibilities of the remainder using only dimes, nickels, and pennies. Next, move the number of quarters down one and repeat.
