The black snake itself both in colour and animal representation unfortunately is not a good thing. See the colour black representing darkness and death and the snake which in many cultures has represented evil, betrayal and deception. Its common to have animals appear in a dream however that particular animal I would analyze what it could possibly be representing in your own life. Usually dreams are connected to a sub conscious acute awareness of what your conscious is failing to perceive or recognize. the snake could simply represent a dark lingering that is in the form of a betrayal... keep an eye open for things that may make themselves known later that don't seem so obvious right now. Those that are close to you through blood, friendship , or marriage usually are the first to trigger those dreams with dark animals take a seat and reflect on the people around you. If someone is ill that may also have triggered that particular animal as it could be leading to a death.

You aren't offering enough information here, you need to write what the snake was doing, what you were doing, your reaction to it, where you were, etc. All anyone can give you is a general definition of a snake, and that can vary, depending on the circumstances, and what personal symbolism you have for snakes....
