She might have sat in diarrhea poops and they got on her butt and they smell bad. Try taking her to the vet to clean her bottom out. She might have diarrhea that makes it smell bad or some kind of infection. Please take your hammy to the vet.

Best of luck,

Wow i have never heard of a hamster having a smelly bottom, so the only thing i could imagine is wrong is that she has an infection, or a disese called wet tail, so check her bottom to see if she is suffering with an upset belly. Wet tail is fatal in hamsters, so it would be best to get her to the vet for a check up.

Take your hamster to the vet. Odds are you haven't been cleaning the cage properly and she has now developed Wet Tail or a fungal infection. Hamsters are not supposed to smell bad. If you do not do a proper cleaning of your hamsters cage food will rot and the hamster will get sick.

Clean her butt for her a little? Might be just some left over poop. If it doesn't work you should take her to the vet to be sure, in case it's some kinda illness. And if your vet says there's nothing wrong with your hamster, maybe you should try getting used to the smell, or you're overreacting.

good luck

Have you heard of wet tail?

Does your hamster's tail end look discoloured or damp at all? Is he passing normal pellets?

You should know that if your hamster is showing signs of diarrhoea ('wet tail') - and I can't think of any other reason a hamster's bottom would smell - you need to get him to the vet fast. Diarrhoea kills rodents quickly because their bodies cannot handle the ensuing dehydration.
