How many stars are there in the universe?

There are about 10 billion (10^10) stars in an average galaxy,
and there are about 10 billion galaxies that we can observe in the universe,
so the answer is 100 billion billion or 10^20

A few years back a research group with nothing better to do did a careful survey of the sky and came up with the approximate total of stars in the universe as being 70-SEXTILLION..! That's a '7' followed by 22 zeros..!
