Why do people want to look "sexy" when it means...
naughty, provocative, provoking, purple, racy, risqué, salty, seductive, sensual, sensuous, shady, slinky*, spicy*, steamy*, suggestive, titillating, voluptuous?

Wouldn't you rather be beautiful which means....
admirable, alluring, angelic, appealing, beauteous, bewitching, charming, classy, comely, cute, dazzling, delicate, delightful, divine, elegant, enticing, excellent, exquisite, fair, fascinating, fine, good-looking, gorgeous, graceful, grand, handsome, ideal, lovely, magnificent, marvelous, nice, pleasing, pretty, pulchritudinous, radiant, ravishing, refined, resplendent, shapely, sightly, splendid, statuesque, stunning, sublime, superb, symmetrical, taking, well-formed, wonderful?

We live in a world today that honestly is going down the tubes. I really don't want to look "racy" as compared to "stunning"....

Am I just crazy? I'd like to hear both sides of the story please!

IMPUTH- Ok, how am I NOT to take the definition literally. It's like saying that you shouldn't take the definition of... let's say "dog". If you wanted to call someone a "cat" as a compliment you wouldn't say "dog". Now I know that isn't really the same thing, but you get the just of things, right?

I agree with you. I would choose being beautiful over being sexy any day.

I think our world is becoming far too sex-driven - almost everything we buy or see is endorsed by sex appeal. I couldn't really tell you why, but there is an undeserved emphasis on sexuality in almost every aspect of life. I hate it sometimes. That is why I think so many people just want to be seen as a sex object.

Sex appeal fades but beauty is forever. To be beautiful is to transcend today's cheap sex-driven culture. You don't need to be dirty or suggestive in order to be beautiful, and that's what I think is so much better about it. Beauty is a representation of everything pure and good and wholesome in this world; I suppose most people are caught up trying to outsex each other to consider how much innocence and purity they are throwing away.

I've noticed that a lot of show Border collies have longer hair. When herding, it is better for them to have shorter hair, in my opinion (and in many others), because it doesn't get tangled in long grass, it's easier to keep neat, etc. But I have seen a couple medium length coat Border collies herding, just none with a really long show length coat. Seeing that everyone so far has mentioned that... That really means nothing, haha. Or like what Mutter said. Some show BCs are bred for looks, herders are bred for intelligence (which makes sense, if you ask me. The only dogs show breeders ever seem to produce are classically marked black and white, fluffy BCs. The reason the breed is so smart is they have never been bred for looks, which is why they can be any color under the sun, can have any coat length, and even have a pretty wide weight range for a smaller scale medium sized breed), and so it is argued that show breeders are ruining the breed. Or I suppose with banned coloring in certain breeds. The "silver" lab probably has the potential to be a fine hunter if trained properly, but the coloring means no shows for them. That's kind of the other way around though. ADD: or i suppose the AmStaff is a good example. According to some people that answered my question yesterday, the Amstaff and the APBT started out as the same breed, but the Amstaff had the "game" look bred out of it so it would be show quality. So pretty much every visual difference between Amstaffs and APBTs are for show...

"sexy" is the "in" thing right now.. i think if "trashy" was the in thing people would be looking trashy. it seems no one likes a fad til someone says it looks great. as for me id rather be beautiful but then again i dont conform to what the fasion police say. everyone wants to look sexy right now because its the easiest way to get attention from the opposite sexy, or even the same sex for that matter. hold that.. its the easiest way to get attention period. im not bashing on "sexy" because sexy does look good at times but sexy isnt always the key.

Because of the media representation and celebrities in the spotlight. Every media outlet photographs these women in the spotlight describe them as sexy. Gone are the days when the actresses would dress respectably and actually cover themselves up leaving something to the imagination. When you have entertainers running around without underwear, you have to shake your head and wonder what our world is coming to.

I guess people are often confused which they prefer. While sexiness is worthy only in public, beauty goes all the way.
But definitely a sexy person is more eye-catching and therefore becomes more popular, although the whole glory may disappear all of a sudden!

While you have listed a bunch of Webster synonyms for the words "sexy" and "beautiful", they (like all words) carry different connotations depending on the situation and how the word is used.

I like being called both sexy and beautiful, but the words have to be said in the right context to really be meaningful.

This is the best example I could come up with (please don't take offense):
Before my boyfriend and I have sex, I love to hear him tell me how sexy he thinks I am...and specifically what parts of my body are most sexy to him and turn him on the most. Hearing him call me "sexy" lets me know that he finds me desirable (even after the 6 years we have been together).

During sex, both words do just about the same job. I know that whether he is calling me "sexy" or "beautiful" what he means is that he is enjoying myself and is admiring me while making love to me.

After sex, I love to hear my boyfriend say that I am beautiful. When he says this, I know he means that I am beautiful inside and out, that I am wonderful just the way I am.

To me, only someone who really knows me can really believe I am "beautiful". Beauty is something that is intimate. So, when I'm out at a club or a party and someone says to me, "You are the most beautiful girl here!"...I know what they are really saying is, "You are the sexiest girl here!" So, with strangers, it doesn't matter much to me whether I'm told that I'm beautiful, sexy, hot, cute, etc. I know it's all the same coming from someone who knows little about me except that I have green eyes and nice legs.

Hope that answered your question! =)

i'd rather be stunningly beautiful naturally...that way i wouldn't have to try so hard to be 'sexy' by acting or dressing like someone who's desperate for the guys' attention. sexy is just fake and cheap...but true beauty, is naturally sexy, and gets the best kind of attention, especially from the real men....not from those sleazy construction workers who wolf whistles at that 'sexy' girl in a micromini skirt and belly baring top.

I would personally, much rather be with a man who calls me bautiful rather than sexy. If a man calls me sexy, it makes me feel as if he only wants sex, while the word "beautiful" makes me feel as if he really values and respects me. Its just that this world today glorifies sex! Everything has to be "sexy", it isnt just "Use Colgate Total for a beautiful white smile!" its, "Use Colgate toal for a SEXY white smile!"

I will never be with a man who thinks of the word "sexy" to describe me rather than the word "beautiful"

I think some girls or guys lack a sense of security. So in their mind they believe if they portray sexiness, they will get attention. Therefore this fills that void of insecurities.
