Why do people think that Criminals that already don't follow the law will follow new gun laws? Do people really think that making it harder for law abiding citizens to get gun, it will some how make crime drop? Has any one looked at the crime rate in DC? It skyrocketed after they baned guns.

D.C. residents need more protection: Crime has risen significantly since the gun ban went into effect. In the five years before Washington’s ban in 1976, the murder rate fell from 37 to 27 per 100,000. In the five years after it went into effect, the murder rate rose back up to 35. In fact, the murder rate after 1976 has never fallen back to what it was in 1976. Robberies and overall violent crime changed just as dramatically. Robberies fell from 1,514 to 1,003 per 100,000 and then rose by over 63 percent, up to 1,635.

People are naive. They think that since guns are used in crimes, banning guns will stop crimes. Study after study shows that allowing law abiding citizens to carry concealed weapons results in less crime not more, but some people are not impressed with facts.

Crime has not skyrocketed in DC...look at the FBI website for the last 10 years..you will see very little change there.

And either way you stand on the issue more strict gun control does reduce crime period....because some of the law abiding citizens as you call them are some of the people who commit gun crimes.

Ever see a fired employee shoot up his office?
Ever see a jealous boyfriend kill his girlfriend?
Ever see a student shoot up a school?
Ever see a wife kill their cheating or abusive husband?

Were people in these cases criminals before they committed their murder? No....but these are the people who have lawful access to the tools of their crimes.

Gun control laws will help with the crime rate. Its not about banning guns. Its about making it harder for criminals to get them. Not just criminals though. Mentally unstable individuals also. I belive in the right to bear arms. But I also believe it is a responsability we must keep. Guns ARE dangerous and I believe there should be checks on ALL guns...Also I believe assault riffles should not be available to citizens...and no one should carry a concealed weapon.

Well basically, banning guns in one state won't work because we have free national flow of commerce. That's why the DC ban does no good, because there's no way to enforce it. There are no border checks at state lines in the US. The only way it would do any good is if all the states banned them together. Countries that ban guns AND enforce the ban properly reduce their violence rate.

It is proven that states that allow guns to people have less crime. SO in short they are fools. The criminals want the upper hand, and in states that allow arms to all citizens they do not have the upper hand . Simple.

The biggest reason is the lack of the truth.
The unwillingness to listen or believe what you are saying.
They are the ones that will makes good abideing citizens
illegal, get arrested and put with the criminals,
They won't change their minds even if someone in their own families get hurt,,,,They just won't get it.

First they got to control the criminals before they can control the guns!

Let's see, it's worked in Europe and other continents...
On the other hand, Canada only has 68 deaths per year due to guns, and they have more guns per capita...

Guess it goes both ways, doesn't it?

Fewer guns means fewer crimes and it is the rationale of gun control law which is valid exercise of police power.
