Because, they both resist the flow of electrons through the conductor!

The light bulb produces heat and light because of this resistance.

A light bulb isn't like a resistor. it IS a resistor. Or the filament is anyways.

Increasing the thickness decreases the resistance. The resistance is proportional to the length and inversely proportional to the cross-sectional area.
