I have 2 infant seats-- one with the "z" and one without, and I can defiitely say that the one with the "z" is more comfortable to carry. Without it, it's at an awkward angle, and it's a pain in the butt to lug around.

We have the Evenflo Embrace that has a Z handle. I can't really compare it to one that doesn't because I have no experience with the other kind, but I think it's very easy to carry. Perhaps you two could go to Walmart and practice carrying a 10lb bag of sugar around the store in each kind of carrier to see what kind is most comfortable for you.

I have one and its awesome. We've used for all 3 kids. It does make a difference. you can rest the handle across your arm and lessen stress on your wrist. I have orthopedic problems with my wrist and I would never use one of the old fashioned handles. your boyfriend doesn't understand. I have carried friends babys in a carrier without the Z handle and hated it.

It has always felt strange for me to carry it that way when helping patients to their cars. We had the Graco with the regular handle, and I tended to carry the seat with the handle tucked in at my elbow...the upper arm is much stronger than the forearm and that left me a free hand to fiddle with keys, etc....I would say it's unneccesary, but try them all out at the store....

I've had both, and they are both difficult to carry. JMO With the "z" handle, your hand is just in a different position that might make it more comfortable.

I have one with a triangle handle. It doesn't make a difference. I hold it a different way every time anyway.
