A BBT reads to the .01 degree vs. the typical .1 degree of digital therms. It also recalls the last temp taken. Even small fluctuations make a big difference.

Daily consistency is vital -- no matter what kind of therm you use -- It is so important to take your temp immediately upon awakening in the morning - BEFORE you get up, move around, eat, drink, smoke, talk - if possible, while you are still "half asleep". The best reading of your basal temperature can be taken at the same time every morning when you first awake.

Just a regular digital one. The important thing is to take your temp every single day around the same time, and before you get out of bed. I set my alarm at 8am every morning to take my temp and record it in one of the ovulation tracker apps I have on my phone (I use WomanLog and My Days X). Even if I go back to sleep right afterward, I still make sure to take my temp either when my alarm goes off, or no more than 1 hr before if I wake up earlier. PS... You might also want to take your temp more than once. I've noticed that when I take my temp a second or third time, it is often .1 or .2 degree higher than the first time I take it, I guess because the thermometer gets cold!

I agree, the difference is that a basal body thermometer goes to two decimal points instead of one.

The basal temp is usually a number like 98.99 rather then 98.9. It makes a big difference when trying to track your ovulation.
