Don't like it. Currently, illegal aliens get free healthcare. Taxpayers are paying for it.

Studies have been done (and give me a while to find the cite for you) showing that people who currently pay for their own health insurance would wind up individually spending less with universal health care.
We already pay for other people's medical expenses. Why not have the same amount of money going out (or less--see above) and have everyone covered?
A good deal of wasted medical expense is people who are not covered waiting until their illness is so bad they go to emergency rooms--whose fees are ten times higher than going to see a doctor--said fee being picked up by taxpayers.

I'd rather it be that way than going to pay for some of the stupid, ridiculous things that the gov't spends money on every day of the year..
People make remarks like this.. about 'YOUR MONEY' being used to pay other people's expenses, but when you really look at it, what is happening in that kind of situation is that EVERYONE's money is going into a pool and then everyone has access to it.. some will use more.. some will use less... but overall, everyone gets access then.. (Just a simple way of looking at it.. if you're trying to pin it down to your money being used for it...)..
I am much more concerned at the gov't spending billions on wars that have no merit.. on 'pork barrel' politics.. on ridiculous items that you hear about all the time.. I'd much rather see money being spent on health care..
PLUS.. with universal health care.. you're then covered too.. and if something bad happens to you.. you'd get your help.. whether you could afford it or not.. so.. it does have a positive right there!

it's a good idea in theory...after all doesn't canada have something like this? (correct me if I'm wrong) But then the salaries for a lot of healthcare professions would go down....like nursing, and you think we have a nursing shortage now? I know that some canadian nurses will actually cross the border to work in the US because then they get paid more than if they were to work in canada.

there is no universal health-care. my brother- self employed- crushed his heal last year in arkansas and couldnt get medical help. everyone wanted cash up-front. by the time he found someone willing to finance, it had started healing. costs doubled. i have a liver disorder that can be treated, but i dont have insurance.if i choose that type of death, this will be my undoing.i could quit working and go on welfare; therefore have insurance, but i would rather die as a man- with my work boots on.

With private Insurance, your money is being used to pay for other's medical expenses. Also, you are indirectly paying for uninsured health care recipients, who use the ER and other services. (higher taxes and health insurance premiums).

Universal healthcare isn't working on the other side of the world (as I call it) and it certainly isn't going to work here. We have enough problems on our hands. We don't need another.

IT'S THE ONLY RIGHT THING TO DO.
WHY IS IT THAT SO MANY AMERICANS THINK THAT A SYSTEM SUCH AS THIS IS SO BAD ???
THE 'ALIENS' ARE GOING TO BE TAKEN CARE OF ANYWAY, FOR GAWDS SAKE !!
WHAT'S WRONG WITH TAKING CARE OF THE 'REAL' AMERICANS AND STOP LINING THE POCKETS OF THE HMO'S AND ALL THE OTHER 'GREASED PALMS' IN THE SYSTEM?
GEEZ, IT AIN'T THAT DIFFUCULT, EXCEPT THERE'S TOO MUCH CONTROL FROM THESE BIG COMPANIES AND THEIR 'PROFIT MARGINS' THAT ARE CREATED BY REPUBLICAN HACKS AND MONEY-MONGERS !!
THIS SYSTEM IS NOT 'NIRVANA', BUT IT'S LIKE WHAT WINNY CHURCHILL SAID ABOUT DEMOCRACY, THAT IT'S NOT A PERFECT SYSTEM, BUT IT'S THE BEST THERE IS, COMPARED TO THE ALTERNATIVES !! (PARAPHRASED).

Hmmm....let's see, I can get my families health care in America for $800 a month, or I can get it in France for 45 Euro a month....I think Universal is cheaper....and better quality by the way.
