New boss (President) promises to make nice to America, apologizes for rotten behaivour over past few years. He even says France must cut it's social programs, cut immigration, enforce laws against illegals!

I think so. Last summer Sweden also threw the "Bolsheviks" out of office.
Despite their reputation, most of the French I have met are nice people. I think they are realizing that the leftist policies and regulations will destroy their economy in the long run. While the leftists carp about 35 hour work weeks and 6 weeks of vacation, manufacturers can get the same work done better, quicker and cheaper in China, India or Vietnam. I think the Frech now understand that, giving the recent trend of government regulation, there will be an even bigger capital flight from the country and almost no capital investment.

The French believes that they wanted a conservative to lead them to what is supposed to be normal unlike adopting a socialist leader in Royal.
