I used to do it less. When you ride a lot it does accumulate.
Having a white bike with chrome wheels can be ............
I do my maintenance by the book.
I used to ride old bikes, where maintenance was oil the chain two or three times a week, change the oil when I felt like, and get a safety inspection once a year.
I used to joke that when the local shop put up the spring service time "it's time to wash the Honda".
Old habits die hard, and there's not enough hours in the day to polish.

I clean my motorcycle almost everytime before i take it out, wipe it down and shine the chrome. As im doing this im also doing somewhat of a safety check. Anything i can do to increase my safety i will do as often as possible, as well as keeping my ride clean. I make sure all the lights work, tire pressure is okay and that both brakes are working. So pretty much i do this everytime before i ride which is at least 4 times a week.

Like most have already suggested keep your air filter clean, make sure your tires are properly inflated. Make sure to check the air pressure while the tires are cold. If it's a sport bike, use premium gas, you won't need any additive unless it will be sitting for a while without being rode. Most bikes you can see the brake pads so just do frequent visual inspection of brakes and replace when needed. I agree with the other poster who mentioned riding. The best thing you can do for your bike is ride it.

I used to do it more, but when you ride a lot, you tend to let it accumulate some dirt before a good cleaning.
It helps having a black bike with black wheels. Dirt shows less.
I think I've washed it twice in a year. I'm not a clean fanatic. I've got 3 other vehicles that I have to wash now and then. My 4x4 really gets dirty.
I'd rather be riding than washing.

As I clean, I check for problems and make adjustments as well. Sunday afternoon is my usual time for this, then the bike is ready for a week of commuting.
Cleaning my bikes has never been a chore for me. I find it relaxes me and I "bond" with my machine.
Motorcyclists, as a rule, know more about the details of their machines then people who only drive cars. I mean, when was the last time you crawled under your car and wiped off your muffler?
Knowing that I've checked out my bike thoroughly means I'm more confident while riding.

I do a walk around before every ride and do the maintance by the book.
Cleaning? Who has time for that? If it's nice enough to clean your bike it's nice enough to be riding it.
