The difference between the numbers of adjacent lockers is 1
Let x be the smaller number of the 2 lockers
Let y be the bigger number of the 2 lockers
Hence,
x+x+1=689
x=344
y=x+1=344+1=345

You have answers, but no method.
Let n = the number on the lowest numbered locker.
The next consecutive locker will be n+1... one more than n.
n + (n+1) = 689
2n+1 = 689 because n+n = 2n
Add -1 to both sides
2n = 688
Multiply both sides by 1/2
n = 344.
The next consecutive locker will be
n+1=344+1=345

I'm assuming that by saying they are adjacent the numbers are consecutive integers. Let's call them n & n+1.
n+n+1=689
2n+1=689 subtract 1 from each side
2n=688 divide both sides by 2
n=344
n+1=345
The numbers are 344 & 345

assume adjacent lockers have consecutive numbers, call them x and x+1. then x + x+1 = 689
2x + 1 = 689. 2x = 688. x + 344 x+1 = 345

Hello Minnie 4,
The numbers are one apart.
Let x = the first one
then x+1 is the second one
So x + x + 1 = 689
2x +1 = 689
solve for x
2x = 688
x = 344 and x + 1 = 345 and 344 + 345 = 689
Hope This Helps!

let the no. on one locker be x and the other be x +1.
x + x + 1 = 689
2x = 688
x = 344
so the locker nos are 344 and 345
