The "Big Bang" , the generally accepted explanation of how the universe was formed is not really a scientific theory, it is only a popular speculation. It was postulated in the earlier part of the twentieth century when astronomers observed that Galaxies, which had just been discovered , seemed to be all traveling apart from each other. The farther away they were the faster apart they seemed to be traveling. Prior to that the astronomers believer in a "Steady state" universe, one that just sat there. OK, so they supposed that if the expansion they saw was turned around, like going backwards in time, then the galaxies would be getting closer together. If this happened for a long enough time, they would all have a common origin. From this speculation has come all the other speculations and postulations. It is unprovable and hence it is not really science, but faith. Statements that "most" believe in the faith of the "Big Kaflooie" are not a proof ; they are attempts to intimidate the "Unbelievers".

Supposedly there was nothing. No spacetime, no up, down, left, right. etc. No concept of existence, period. You couldn't even call what was before darkness because there wasn't even concept of it. There was no void. There was no nothing, just total complete absolute nill.

Then from an infinitesimal point that can be considered a singularity, but not a black hole. All the energy that would be the universe, all space, time and matter erupted instantaneously. Spacetime furled out at the speed of light and energy became transient particles that evolved in trillionths of a second to form photons, leptons and basic particles. As the explosion known as the big bang continued a great portion of this energy was forced under pressure to become baryons and hydrogen. The atoms were drawn by gravity into large clouds that became galaxies and further down into what would be stars. Under billions of years stars fused hydrogen into helium and heavier elements. When stars exploded their remains served to form planets, like our own. At some time another large body, maybe a planet collided with Earth and the debris left over from it was spun away into orbit and formed the moon. Comets hit Earth over billions of years to form oceans from their ice, and eventually conditions were right for life to develop and transform Earth by creating a biosphere where more complex life came about.

Now back to the beginning. Why did it happen, where did it come from? Maybe God? Maybe for no reason at all? Maybe it is all made to happen because of some collective will created by living minds of people and things don't necessarily happen in any kind of chronological order. Maybe the concept of thought existed alone and the universe followed spreading from it, moving backward and forward in time, shaping itself to what our imaginations might expect.

What if we all have the same mind? That time and individuality are just illusion. What if all lives that ever lived are happening now and are merely facets of a total singular consciousness? Could that consciousness be defined as God?
