1. Actually know what you are doing.
2. Look confident... let body language show your confidence.
3. Use succinct, but expressive language. Explain what you are doing as you are doing it, leaving all question marks out of your voice. Do not over-explain.

It's the duck theory... if it walks like a duck, and talks like a duck... it's a duck. And ducks are competent swimmers. You just have to display the characteristics of a duck (figuratively applied to your situation, of course).

Something like a license to prove that you're qualified?

Example:

Person #1- I can perform CPR on your dying child, I've never done it before but it looks easy!

Person #2- I can perform CPR on your dying child, I'm certified through the American Red Cross.

Which would you choose?

It is best to let someone find out that you know what you are doing, trying to convince them will only exhaust your self. All you need do is act.

You have to tell them every single reason for why you believe you know what you're doing. It's the only way they will see the situation through your eyes.

If it's in response to somebody who is nagging you about a job that you do often, then I'd say "Listen, I don't go to your job and tell you how to mop floors, do I?"

Otherwise, the proof is in the pudding. Tell them "If I'm going to do it right, I need you to get off my case and have faith."
