I hear that it depends how many boys are in the father's side. If this is true then why did his two brothers have 2 girls each? He has 3 brothers and 1 sister. I'll be happy with a boy or a girl but my husband has his heart set on a boy.

Then he better have a heart-to-heart with his sperm since it's the sperm that decide the baby's gender.

Well, there is no rhyme or reason with what sex you get. And I really don't think it matters who has had what in the family beforehand.
If you want to try for a boy, then look at some of the baby websites that tell you how to supposedly conceive a particular sex. Male sperm swims faster but dies quicker and female sperm swims slower but stays alive longer. So the theory is if you want a boy then make sure you are having sex right on the day you think you are ovulating. For a girl they say to have sex a few days before ovulation and then abstain after that. Of course this is not a guaranteed way of getting the sex you want. You will be chuffed with whatever sex you have!

The only way to be sure you have a boy is to adopt. Otherwise, in some countries, they abort girl fetuses until they have a boy, but I'm sure you don't want to do that. The next choice is to go to a specialist and ask them to centrifuge your husband's sperm and inject an egg with male-sperm, but I doubt they can guarantee that. You could try things like having sex early in your cycle, since boy sperm swim faster and are stronger than girl sperm (I'm trying to make this easy). Or you can tell your husband that you'll only get pregnant when he's smart enough to want a healthy child, not just a male child. That's what I would do, since he sounds like an idiot.

a woman's gender chromosome is like this: xx
a man's gender chromosome is like this: xy
a baby gets one gender chromosome from each parent
two x's make a girl, an x and a y make a boy

since a woman has only x's to give, it depends on whether the man gives an x or a y.

there is no way to control this, but, as other replies have said, it ultimately comes down to the sperm, so your husband might just have to be open to the possibilty that you'll have a girl.

Definitely doesn't work that way. My grandparents had 1 girl and 3 boys and the girls definitely dominate our generation. If your husband paid any attention during health class, he would know that his sperm determines the sex of the baby. Of course, most men forget that anyway.

ok scientifically the way its suppose to work according to recent studies ( so take that with a grain of salt) if you figure out when you ovulate.. have sex the day of and thats it.. the male sperm are faster and die off quicker.. and the female die off later and move slower .. so if you have sex today and ovulate in 2 days you have a higher chance of getting a girl.. HTH and good luck
