Speaking from my 3 years as a (former) body shop estimator and parts guy.....I'd have to see the car, but I suspect that the damage is deeper than just the fenders. The front structure of the car beneath the fenders and bumpers are designed to crush in an accident, and some of that is most likely damaged, and will need either repaired or replaced. otherwise, there won't be anywhere to attach those new fenders, headlights and bumper. Also, if the airbags deployed, there is some cost in those. What about the radiator and A/C condenser? It doesn't take much to rack up $6000 in repairs to a car anymore. I personally did $6k in damage to a Chrysler 300C, and I hit it in the side of the fender. if you think the body shop is ripping you off, get a second estimate and compare them.

I agree with all of the above answers, they are all good.
If an insurance company is paying the bill, that's one thing. If you are paying the bill out of your own pocket, tell them that. It might make a difference and you may get a little cheaper bill.
The most important thing is to get several estimates, you may find that there is a wide difference in costs. Also, find out why the difference, what is one doing and the other one not. Is one using used parts off another wreck? good luck

Step faraway from this automobile! Mustangs are literally not wide-spread for his or her durability and there is a severe situation if the airbags are "undesirable". and do not imagine a carfax record can assist. they are ineffective except the social gathering contained in the coincidence said it to the DMV which maximum do not.

i own a shop and actually there pretty close to being right on this one,i looked at some parts prices and they are real expensive for that car id say they quoted you a pretty fair price,if you go with used parts they are a lot cheaper, but new ones are sort of high,so they did you right on parts for this one, good luck with it,hope this helps.

Well, I took the cheap way out and went salvage. It saved me a lot of dough but that's my opinion.
