I know it's long ago in a distant galaxy so there's a VERY small chance that they haven't come up with the concept, but that is doubtful. Those light guns shoot lasers at much slower speeds than actual bullets, or they at least are easier to see, and if a Jedi DID manage to block the metal projectile with a light saber, he would get a face full of white-hot liquid metal.

Alright I understand what you guys are saying about how it would make the movies dumb, but that isn't the answer I'm looking for. The droids shouln't need to bend over backwards so the Jedi can win. You could at least BS an excuse...

That's a very good question. Give yourself a prize of some kind. I always wondered how you could use those slow moving red light beams anyway. You can see them moving and flashing by you. That's kind of strange. Regular bullets are very effective.

Gorge Lucas would not have mad as much money with regular guns, they had been done before in may types of movies. The Rebellion ultimately had to win the war, the laser guns made it easier for the Jedi to reflect them as you said and that was necessary to help them win the war. It is also possible that the mechanisms used in regular guns would not have worked on the different plant surfaces.

Actually if it's a tracer round or if the light hits it just right you can actually see a bullet coming, besides just because you can see it doesn't mean you can dodge it. Besides Sci-Fi really doesn't work too well with bullets, ok except for the second Alien movie.

because in the star wars world light sabers and lazer guns are the weapons of tomorrow.. (yes i am a star wars geek) and it wouldn't be right to use regular guns or regular swords so that is why light sabers and lazer guns are there... and btw great question you deserve a pat on the back for that...

Well, Movies do not always have to make sense, i think that the people try to make the beams visible so that the expectators can watch were they're htting, and light sabers are very famous for reflecting beams...

Because it is suppose to be the future. It wouldn't be very exciting if it was just cops and robbers or guns and knives, would it? I love Star Wars!!

It's the future. If we can believe that's what the future will be like we can believe that laser guns are faster than regular ones.

Same reason people use guns instead of slingshots-because they work better.
Also, lazers are a lot cooler to watch instead of watching Chewie trying to load a revolver...

because star wars wouldn't be star wars with regular guns and ammo. even the mere thought of that disgusts me.
