Its easy, for the first two questions take the tip and divide it by the total of the meal. To find the total cost of the meal take the tip and amount of the meal to find out how much it all totals
As for the third question you subtract the 6 million and subtract it from the 8.3 million and take that number and divide it by the 8.3 million and you will get your precent for the out of the US and take 6 million divide by 8.3 million to get percent of in the US.

1. The tip was (4 / 25) * 100% = 16%. Total cost = $(25 + 4) = $29.
2. The tip was (12.76 / 58) * 100% = 22% (BIG TIPPER)! The total cost was $(12.76 + 58) = $70.76
3. Percentage manufactured in the U.S. = (6.0 / 8.3) * 100%
= 72.3%.
(This is to greater accuracy than strictly justified by the input data. With only two sig. figs. in the inputs, 72% would be a reasonable answer.)
And if 72% were manufactured within the U.S., then (100 - 72)% = 28% were manufactured without.
Live long and prosper.
(How many of those MANUFACTURED within the U.S. were Toyotas? --- aye, there's the rub!)

The first two questions are very poorly worded. It gives you the cost of the meal and then asks you for the "total cost" of the meal, without defining it. It makes it unclear whether the $25 included tip. Well, we assume it doesn't.
4 / 25 = .16, so it's a 16% tip. total cost is $25+$4, or $29
Second problem is the same. 12.76/58 = your answer. Total cost is 58+12.76.
Last one is again just a simple division. 6million/8.3million, then multiple by 100 to view it as a percentage. For the "outside the US" subtract the first answer from 100.

My shortcut way of doing this:
1) 4 divided by 25 (using a calculator) is 0.16. Move the decimal point over to the right two places to get 16% (the answer). Total cost (do you mean meal plus tip?) just add 25 plu 4 to get $29.
2) 12.76 divided by 58 is 0.22. move decimal point to the right two place, you get 22%. 58+12.76= $70.76 total.
3) 6 divided by 8.3 is .722, or 72% in the US. Since there can only be 100% of anything, 100-72= 28% remaining for the cars manufacture outside to US.

Percent means out of 100 so we dont know the number out of 100 so we call it x. We do know that 4 dollars was the tip and 25 was the meal cost. Multiply 25 times x and 4 times 100-cross multiply. 400 divided by 25x equals 16. 16 out of 100 is really 0.16 times 100 and you get the percent which is 16 percent. Multiply .16 by 25 and you get 4 or 4 dollars.

1) (x/100)(25) = 4
x = 4*100/25 = 16%
$25 + $4 = $29
2) x/100 = $12.76/($58 + $12.76)
x = 100*12.76/70.76
x â 18%
Total cost = $70.76
3) x/100 = 6/8.3
x = 100*6/8.3 â 72.29%
100% - x = 27.71%

OK, hopefully you're allowed a calculator.
You're going to divide the smaller part by the bigger part.
Then multiply the answer by 100.
So for #1.
4/25=0.16
So multiplying by 100, we see he left a 16% tip.
(BTW, total cost is meal+tip.....$29)
See what you can do with the others.

1) 4/25 = x/100
400/25 = x
x = 16%
Total cost is $25 + $4 = $29.
2) same procedure as #1.
3) (6 / 8.3)(100) = 72.289% ~72.3% (manufactured within the U.S.)
100% - 72.3% = 27.7% (manufactured outside the U.S.)

the easiest way is cross multiplication. set your equation like this: (4/25)=(x/100) then multiply the numerators with the opposite denominators so you get 400=25x divide and x=16
you can you this same strategy for all of these
