In most cities, it isn't a matter of safety, it's a matter of the law. In most places, it is illegal to drive with a donut spare tire. It is to be used only to get you out of a dangerous situation and to the nearest shop where you can have your regular tire repaired or replaced.

They are alright for short trips under 50 mph. I would not leave it on for long. You would be better off with a used tire if you are in a pinch.

those are only designed to get us 50 miles---------thats one thing the consumers should be screaming about------this is a gross injustice-------------you need to find a real rim------right away------the donut is unreliable and becomes a danger

I had one on for a month before! I wouldn't recommend it, though.
