The War in Iraq is so unpopular that I am afraid there is no chance of a Republican winner this time around.

Interesting theory. Can you expand on why you feel this way?

While the war in Iraq is unpopular, the Democratic cut and run strategy is also unpopular. In other words, it's a bad situation, and most people are very ambivilent about what to do with it.

Also, there are other issues that people feel strongly about. In other words, yes, they do have a chance.

Yes, there is a chance of a Republican winning the White House in 2008.

The war in Iraq is now extremely unpopular, but no one - Democrat or Republican - seems to be certain what to do about it, and most politicians at this point, regardless of political party, regard the war as a mistake that needs to end (although obviously not all believe in setting a withdrawal date).

Just because a politician is Republican doesn't mean they support the war in Iraq or Bush's attitude and strategies.

So, yes, the next president of the United States may very well be a Republican or a Democrat.

The real question is if any of the second- or third-tier candidates in either party have any chance of winning the nomination, or if McCain, Giuliani, Romney, Clinton, Edwards, and Obama will successfully dominate the competition in that regard.

IMO, there's only two ways the Republicans can save the day for '08. 1) If they do something about the war in Iraq, and somehow get credit for fixing it instead of leaving the impression they got dragged into doing something about it by the Democrats; and 2) If they do something about the perception of corruption coming from the White House.

The country is more than ready for a regime change. I know there's a long way to go in the race for the White House, but if past behavior is any indicator of future behavior, there's not going to be any big changes in the status quo by the Bush Administration. That adds up to a loss for the Republicans.

Republicans are not favored in 2008 because of the debacle in the Iraq war.

VOTE for your choice as US President on my 360 degrees blog and know if a Republican will likely win.

I think the only way that a Republican could win this year is to be a maverick. But that makes winning the primary harder.

For a while, I thought McCain would be the obvious choice, but he's somehow squandered that opportunity. Now, I wonder if a dark-horse like Ron Paul might be able to do it. He's a longshot to win the primary, but I think he'd stand a lot better chance in the general election than any of the pro-War Republicans. However, most young Republicans nowadays are living in denial, so I think we'll get a candidate who promises more of the same. That, of course, is a recipe for certain loss.

Yes, there is a great chance of Republican's winning the White House in 2008. The war in Iraq is not the only issue. The ability to name a judge on the supreme court, and for example:(in no particular order) Protecting our country and keeping us safe, immigration, the sanctity of marriage, protecting unborn children, lower taxes, volunteer military, education and no child left behind, reading, our economy, pro business, less government control, being able to protect yourself with a gun if necessary - just to name a few concerns.

There is a reasonable chance. The best thing the republican candidates have going for them is the Democratic candidates. Also a lot can change between now & Nov 08.

They have a chance if Dems make the mistake again of just talking bad about Rep and not concentrating in what really matters for our Nation. I think Kerry insisted too much about Bush mistakes that he forgot about what America needs. We don't need another fool in the white house!

Rose O, The WTC was lost because of the idiot we had in the white house from 93 to 01. It was completely his failure. And if his crazy liberal wife wins in 08, the same thing is going to happen, another 9-11.

i think of that as quickly as a clean president is re-elected the liberal domicile/senate will comprehend that they dont exist via fact they are so stupid, that theyre going backwards right into a time the place they dont exist. subsequently they disappear in a pant of superb judgment and we are left senateless! what is going to we do!? nicely we then choose a set of cats, who finally end up getting lots extra performed than the unique domicile/senate...
