She is a rabbit around 8 or 9 years old. And is kept on a varied diet from banana's to carrots, and has time outside and in. she seems unconfortable. any advice on how to get it to go away? ( i'm afraid i'd hurt her if i tried to scrub it off.)

She may have ear kanker, try using a little vegetable oil, just put a little in each ear.

That sounds like ear mites (ear canker). Also your diet of banana's to carrots isn't probably the healthiest for her. Stick to the pellets and water.

Check the insides of the ears to see if you see any black scab-like stuff down inside of them. If so, cover her eyes and use a can of WD-40 with the red tube that comes with it to spray a small amount down into each ear. WD-40 is a sprayable oil and the oil covers and suffocates the mites. After you are done spraying inside the ears, allow the rabbit to shake the mites out. It may take a few treatments to fully get rid of all of them.

Also, I'd recommend you probably take your rabbit to the vet and have it given a shot of Ivomec to take care of fur mites or any other parasites it might have. I recommend the Ivomec treatment becaus in addition to ear canker she may also have fur mites.
