There are a number of ways to do this but the best way (in my opinion, having interned at Arista Records in the early 2000s) is to research and obtain the contact at the "Manager" level of the company, email them your resume, and then followup with a call. If they're at all interested - request an interview or call back regularly just to keep in touch. Aim for interning in the summer as record labels have small army's of interns in the summer. If you don't have success with the first company you contact, go to the next. I made a list of ten companies and just got lucky on the first try.

...and by "Manager" level, I don't mean music managers but Marketing Manager's, A&R Managers, Product Managers, etc.
