CONGRATS, girl!! I am in the same boat as you, mama!! I just got my BFP last week (first appointment is tomorrow morning) and I have been on the internet and talking to my sis and BFF constantly, trying to absorb as much info as possible. So far, I've found that you should take some kind of prenatal OTC vitamin, but your doc will give you the folic acid you need at your first appointment. Also, you are having to pee a lot b/c your uterus is pressing against your bladder as it grows. I read that you shouldn't eat raw meats, uncooked eggs, or soft cheeses b/c they could contain salmonella and other bacteria. If you are a seafood eater, make sure you eat it in moderation b/c some fish contain mercury and shrimp contain iodine. If you are a caffeine lover, try to cut back to one caffeine drink per day. Be VERY careful during your first trimester b/c it's the most crucial time for your baby's development. If you are tired, rest. If you are hungry, eat. Don't get worked up over things, despite the fact that your hormones are going to be raging and you will become very irritable. Worrying can stress the baby out, too. That's all I know to tell you right now!! OH - this is a BIG one b/c I almost had a nervous break down after this happened to me the other night: spotting during your first trimester, especially after sex, is ABSOLUTELY NORMAL!! =0) Hope this helps!!

Congrats first of all!. the one a day vitamin will be fine until you can talk to your doctor about a prenatal vitamin. The one a day has folic acid so you are fine. Stay away from fish, tuna fish is ok in moderation. Also, only take tylenol for headache or what not. Your body is dealing with its hormones and your will be experiencing many thing, which includes the peeing a lot.
for those wondering---BFP=big fat positive

I would recomend going to walmart or somewhere and buying prenatal vitamins, they have everything a pregnant woman needs, the only thing I can think of that you shouldn't eat is raw foods, and fish with mercury in them...and as far as the peeing issue...sorry but it only gets worse as the baby grows LOL wait til you hit about 6-7 months you will live in the bathroom at night (or i did anyway)
(FOR EVERYONE ELSE OUT THERE BFP IS BIG FAT POSITIVE ON A HOME PREGNANCY TEST)

Congratulations! Don't worry about the vitamins now. Next time you go out, choose some prenatal vitamins, or just wait until you see the doctor. Depending on your insurance, prescription may be cheaper or free. They say you should avoid cold lunch meat and hot dogs because of listeriosis. They also say you shouldn't eat raw fish or meat (sorry if you're a sushi lover). Someone else suggested "What To Expect When You're Expecting," but there are better books out there. What To Expect was written so as not to offend anyone, and the whole series is questionable. Check out the Sears series of books; they're all great. Congratulations!

There are some doctors that prefer you do NOT take a regular multivitamin. If you do take a multivitamin, make sure it doesn't contain more than the recommended daily allowance of 770 mcg RAE (2,565 IU) of vitamin A unless it's all in the form of beta-carotene. (Getting too much of a certain kind of vitamin A can cause birth defects.) If you're unsure what to take, ask your healthcare provider to recommend a supplement for you.
You can get prenatal vitamins over the counter at your local drugstore or grocery store. You might also call you doctor and ask them what prenatal vitamin they recommend as you want to make sure you are getting plenty of folic acid now.
I would invest in the book What to expect when your expecting and The girlfriends guide to pregnancy. They are both excellent sources that cover everything in every stage. I also recommend writing down questions in between doctor visits because sometimes you get there get caught up in the visit and forget to ask. Don't forget your doctor is there for you at anytime if it's important day or night don't hesitate to call.
Congratulations I wish you all the best! and get ready to spend a lot of time in the bathroom, your uterous is pushing on your bladder and it will only get worse LOL... Welcome to the wonderful world of motherhood, but all those bathroom trips are worth it!
Stay away from sushi, undercooked meat and there are some types of seafood you want to avoid due to mercury issues. You can get fish from a farm though, so if you crave fish just make sure it's farm raised, you can find out by asking at the store. I tried to eat organic vegtables when possible to cut down on pesticide exposure. I also stopped getting the inside of our home sprayed for pests and switched to having them spray the outside only. You can have shrimp if it is FARM raised, so if you crave it which you never know just be sure to check the source of the shrimp.

Take a prenatal vitamin, your pharmacist can recommend a good one.
Don't eat anything undercooked, or unpasteurised. Wash fruit and veg before eating.

You have to pee because of the hormones, and this isn't the only strange thing that will happen!
CONGRATULATIONS!
For those who don't know, BFP is Big Fat Positive on a pregnancy test- I asked about that yesterday :)

I have no idea what a "BFP" is, but the folic acid should have been started prior to conception. My gyno says the folic acid levels have to be high before a baby is conceived to help with neural tube defects. If you eat plenty of leafy green veggies, you may not have needed extra folic acid. If you are pregnant, grab the book "What to Expect When you are Expecting". It will answer many questions you will have throughout pregnancy including what your diet should be. Good luck!

First, congrats! I would start taking an over the counter prenatal vitamin until you can get a prescription prenatal. You can eat most things, but make sure that everything is cooked well even lunch meat. You don't want to get listeria!

Congratulations.
first, enjoy your pregnancy. it might be hard the first three months. anyway take prenatal vitamins, avoid eating a lot of fish, especially the one high in mercury and especially in the first three months.
no x rays.
try to eat organic if you can afford it, i heard some non organic vegetables like green beans can cause birth defect. i know, it's hard to stick to all this.
i think that this info should be enough until you go see your doc. oh and don't lift heavy stuff.
good luck
