Why do people do drugs?

It doesn't make sense to me... I knew someone who used drugs.... alot... one day they got caught... they were fired from their job and now they are facing criminal charges.. it ruined their life. Drugs ruin your body and your health in general... you can have fun without drugs in your life... so why do people use them?

i dont like drugs. people like it because it takes them out of the real world for a couple hours and makes them feel good.

Well, different drugs do different things to people. Pot isn't addictive, and the side-effects overall are minimal. Other drugs can drain a person entirely before they even know what has happened to them. For the most part, it either starts out as peer pressure (most people I know were pressured to smoke pot their first time), while all others start any drug out of curiosity.

As for a more literal "why", people who smoke and try drugs are aware of the consequences and don't mind if their body and mind are impaired, if not for a temporary shift in perception. It's the price you pay.

Sometimes people take drugs prescribed by the doctor..
On the other hand you have drugs like: Cocaine, Marijuana,LSD to name a few..
Drugs can affect your brain, heart and other organs in the body..

Kids/teens feel they will fit into a group of friends, or perhaps just escape from reality...They don't realize they could become addicted if taking these drugs over a period of time..

I dont know but I do know that I wouldnt ever want to take the chance of losing a job, marriage or friendships over it. When I was younger I had seen too many people living from pay check to pay check for their drugs, cigarettes and booze. So that was enough to convince me to head in a different direction in life.

Well, people start of with a big issue of problems or some other situations and the only thing that makes them feel good is drugs. It's very hard to quit and they will nver think it's serious.

I have never taken drugs, but I learned in a class that some people use them to self-medicate. Some people have an imbalance in the dopamine levels in their brain. This causes anxiety, depression, etc. Drugs and alcohol tend to temporarily alleviate the symptoms.

I dont do drugs, but drugs fill a void in your life that makes you addicted to them. They can make all your problems go away and that is very valuable to some. Some people cannot controll it. Other people use religion to substitute the effects of drugs, but when you think about it, religion can be just as bad, just in a diffrent way.

Life can ruin your life. You should never judge a person until you have walked a mile in their shoes. The day you were born you were thrust into a situation you never really asked for.I don't know how old you are, or your situation. I just hope you understand that people have demons.

thay are fun ways to experience life. until you grow up and realize responcability ( i cant spell)has a life time of rewards verses getting high all the time trying to forget about reality and how bad someone thinks there life sucks. users end up ruining there life on there own like your friend. i did smoke pot for years. i wore up and got on the road to be healthy. im 23 and i moved away from my home town recently because all my friends were drugies that wouldent stop. so i moved on . better ways to live my life

Because they lack the meaning of life within their lives. Its missing something. They think that doing drugs can help them find it. Some people also do it to fit in and to act real cool.
