Based on our experience, those presentations, the headshots, the lessons, the coaches and the 'books' are all a colosal ripoff. Don't waste your money. There is an infinte supply of cute, smiling girls. If your kid has a really extraordinary 'look' and is the style that's in vogue this year, just send a few ordinary snapshots to art directors of every agency in the Metro phonebook. Skip the sexy clothes and the makeup, Unless your hoping she'll jumpstart her career by training to be a slut. If she's really special, they'll be calling you. Our daughter gets $500 - $1000 for a 45 min shoot every so often. If she didn't enjoy the process we wouldn't bother. We see kids getting dragged around by neurotic parents who clearly are getting more and more screwed up by it all.... and they are the ones that are 'chosen'. I haven't met anyone who got work by being in contests. In New York, the laws regarding the disposition of child actors and models income are very strict and safeguard her earnings for her benefit. So, don't plan on living off your daughter.

Okay first of all you need to know that the modeling industry is brutal! Trust me been there done that! I got offered a few modeling contracts when I was little and I'm still modeling now. If you really want to be a model the best thing you can do is go to a professional photographer and get them to make you a portfolio. These can be quite expensive but this is the best way of making sure that you will get noticed by the right agencies and people. You can also go on a few modeling websites although they can really rip you off, and you hardly get any business. So now all I can say is don't be afraid to be yourself and most of all have fun!!! Good Luck!!! xoxo :-)

I am a 14 yr old model (man I wish i was 5"7!!!) I started modeling at age 13 and should have started a lot earlier. It really is better to start younger IF it is what your child wants. DO NOT use the newspaper ads to find casting calls etc. It can be dangerous. We use Onetalentsource.com This is a networking site that is strictly pg. I have met all of my photographers through here. I have not paid one single penny for any pictures and have a great portfolio. When you are starting out, the best thing to do is find a photographer willing to shoot tfp or time for print. This means both of you get copies of the pics to use for self promotion (websites, portfolios etc.) No money exchanges hands and neither party can sell the photos. This helps you to get a varied portfolio for next to nothing. I have not had any formal training but do attend lots of photo shoots and practice my posing in front of a mirror. Have your daughter take drama or theater classes at school. To be a model you really have to be expressive. Good luck! PS>>You are also in a great area for modeling!

I started my daughter in modeling when she was 1 years old. She was great! The thing with getting into modeling is that it is easier to start young. I took her to a modeling agency and had to pay about $200.00 which was from having a lot of sponsors. Look in your newspaper to find out when and where they are. I looked in the yellow pages and found the one my daughter went to. I tried modeling when I was about 20 and it cost $1, 800.00 just for classes and getting my portfolio done. There are lots of opportunities. Sometimes they come to your local hotels and pick people too. Good Luck.

I really would not suggest modeling, I was in modeling when young, and it made life unbearable, it is so hard to balance that kind of work with school work and friends, I lost all my friends, they were jealous and with modeling school and school, I had no time to play and be a normal child. I also really wouldn't go into modeling without going to a modeling school. If you love your daughter, you really should just wait until she is out of school. I regret going into modeling everyday.
-good luck
