That is, should all states have their primary on the same date?

No - that would ensure that candidates focused only on a few large states. I think it would be better to group the primaries by the size of the states. Starting with the smallest states, have 3 or 4 primaries per week. That would ensure that all states got attention from the candidates and also prevent the winner of the first large primary from becoming the candidate, because most of the convention delegates wouldn't be selected until the end.

Confusion might occur in a national primary because of the so many delegates. Thus, the parties are staging primaries by state.

I'm not sure.

Pro: No states would get disproportionate influence in the nominating procees based on the calander.

Con: It would effectively exclude all but the best known best funded candidates from real consideration.
