The school my son goes to doesn't mention the war. That's a damn shame. Kids need to know what is happening, not be lied to, or secrets kept from them. My son understands because I have explained to him what is happening, and how to respect a soldier, for everything they do, loving, and honoring the country they fight, and die for. He is curious, and wants to meet them, near where we live. He wants to say thank you, and hand out chocolate Hershey kisses to them. He knows about the war, and why we fight it. He remembers 9/11. He is age 9, strong, and loves his country. (I'm just hoping not more than me! LOL).
He isn't crying, he's too young to, but he waves, and smiles when he sees a soldier. I am as proud of him, as I am of American soldier's. I am proud, and grateful to be an American, just like my son is!

Well, there are at least 3000 families that have lost a brother, son, sister, mother, or father in this mess.
Many more families are affected by not having said family member around due to redoployment, extended deployment, or other such service.
But the vast majority have probably been rendered apathetic or indifferent. They have no concept of what war can do when it happens in their country. In fact, most adults can't even begin to grasp the concept of what war really means, or life in a war zone.
We are insulated. We are censored. We see aftermath pictures well after th event that just shows a burnt out car hull and maybe a blood splat or two.
We aren't shown the results. We aren't shown the charred and bloody body parts strewn in every direction. We aren't shown the severly injured man lying on the side of the street trying to tuck his own entrails back into his body. We aren't shown images of a kid sheared in half by the explosion. And we definately aren't shown anything if it involved th death or injury of our troops.
It's bad for morale.
The truth is war is terrible, disgusting, and savage. It's impossible to know unless you've experienced it. And when you have, you're never the same.
I can't pretend to know what it's like either. I've only had parents who lived through the Vietnam war (mother was a nurse). She had some lovely stories to tell.

Kids in general are very uneducated about the war. They generally side with whatever their parents think. Most kids are probably against it because the majority of people are. Children of soldiers, however, are very affected. These kids won't see mommy or daddy for months. The heartache of the ones who lose a parent is unbearable. Kids usually succumb to the feeling that their is nothing they can do about the war. All they can hope for is that their loved one, or the soldiers in general, come back safely.

my kids don't believe me when i tell them that america is a great nation that stands for freedom, human rights, and justice. they know our govt is run by evil, corrupt, heartless men and they find it hard to believe it wasn't always so.
it's certainly provided lots of opportunity for history lessons and philosophical discussions, but remembering those who thought their kids would learn about oral sex because republicans insisted on talking about clinton's sex life, i wonder what on earth they think kids are learning from the monster in the white house.
Far too many kids are growing up never seeing their dads and moms because the parents are deployed in this war.
And it damages all of us to face that our country tortured innocent people to death, as our military admitted after abu graihb. And because the war has produced so many more terrorists, and so many with legitimate grievances against us.
Lastly, the damage done by bush's theivery and butchery to our national treasury will have profound impacts on the kids - their tax rates and how they get less than other societies that pony up taxes, because ours goes to the death machine.

I think that depends on the involvement of their families. On the fashion front, camo is very popular among young boys (and girls?).
GI Joe is cool again. Soldiers are heroes again.
It is disingenuous to speak about the debt they will inherit, since our own generation has inherited trillions from Clinton and his forbears. It is also our generation that will see the end of Social Security after paying our entire lives.

The kids is America are dumb and don't give a rat's left you-know-what about anything. the only kid who are truly affected are the ones who have parents, siblings, friends, or relatives over there.
If these dumb and selfish kids in America are our futture, then we are definitely history!!! Most of them aren't too far off of Paris Hilton. It's just she's money with a crap attitude and the rest just have crap attitudes!!!

They're being affected negatively.
They're being misguided by their parents, teachers and the media. They don't understand a great deal about the war, and will inadvertently concur with whatever is being said by the ones around them.

Well, aside from the obvious and very sad fact that several children have lost their parents to the war, many single parents are coming back to the U.S. to find that they have lost custody of their children to the other parent.

Since I see so many fat and lazy kids today, I would have to say that it is making them eat more and exercise less.
