There must of been something before the universe, it couldn't have popped out of nothingness. But then you think about what put the thing there that put our universe there. That leads to an infinite number of things starting an infinite number of things.

We only know everything in terms of space and time. Before the universe existed, neither of these did.

It is impossible for us to understand because everything we do has to be done in space-time.

Judging by most of the questions on this forum, most people cannot think in terms outside Earth - they can't visualise the planetary motions, the phases of the moon, or the rotation of the Earth (I am sure many people still think everything in the sky rotates around us every day).

The point is, our experiences are everyday Earthly experiences, and there are simply things that nobody can get in their minds - not Hawkins, Hoyle or Sagan (well, the last two are no longer with us). That does not mean we cannot measure things that we cannot comprehend.

Electricity is part of our daily lives, but nobody can visualise an electron flow, and nobody really knows if light is a particle or a wave or what. yet you can switch on your flashlight and use it.

So, as with the universe. there are things that Earthbound creatures cannot comprehend. The big bang points to a start of the universe at zero time and zero volume. That spells nothing to us Earthlings, but obviously in universal terms it is something.

When one says the Earth is finite, we all cannot imagine something like a brick wall at the end of the universe, and we think “:heck, there must be something on the other side of that wall (or whatever is at the end of the universe)”. But that is because our Earthly experience is about brick walls and the end of things being the start of something on the other side.

The fact is that math and theoretical physics can point to things being true, but of which we cannot imagine – nobody can.

So, don’t beat yourselves up about it folks.

let's call the thing that put the universe there God... no matter what your perception of God is relative to any other persons/religion's view. God is the "thing" that created the universe.
Ok, so we know that everything inside the universe has a beginning and an end... which is what we call time. So what about outside the universe? There must be a state of no time where "God" exists infinately. Now, as any major religion would say, God is and always has been. God exists in a state where there is no time in which a human (or life form) born into this universe can not understand. If there is no time, he was never created and he'll never die.

here's the deal. yes, the universe had a beginning, proven by the fact that infinity does not exist. if i have infinity marbles, and give you infinity, then infinity minus infinity = 0. if i give you all but 3, then infinity minus infinity =3. if i give you all the odd ones, and keep the even numbered ones, then infinity minus infinity = infinity. mathematically speaking, infinity cannot exist, therefore, time is finite.

so, there was a beginning, so what caused the beginning. there is no natural scientific explanation for the first state of the universe, before the big bang. this lack of explanation points directly towards a creator. being a Christian, i believe that God transcends time. He always is. He does not need an explanation if this is true.

the big bang theory according to me: God spoke, and BANG, it happened.

(and yes, theoretically, something can exist from nothing, but yet, not. have you ever seen a horse just pop into your bedroom, i think not. the theory can't be proven, so while that doesn't necessarily negate it, it might as well. science, when you really study it, actually points towards intelligent design and a creator, and if you believe in that, and that God transcends time, you have yourself an explanation for the beginning.)

Actually, popping out of nothing is exactly how many scientists are thinking it may have happened. I know this is contrary to the way humans think about how events can happen but the origin and nature of our universe is strange and does not conform to human perceptions.

My theory is that our universe was created by an advanced intelligence whose own universe was wearing out. It/they created this one and moved in. Some day it/they will create another and go to it. By then we'll be advanced enough to go along.

The most accepted theory is 'BIGBANG'. Though it is a bit complicated it is the most satisfying

If you can think a little mathematically may be i can explain you that.
See infinity always tend to zero. If you consider the whole huge expanding universe of today as infinite,it must have originated from zero.
That's the bigbang all about,simple isn't it?

Pretty much. It's hard to imagine a universe (outside of our universe) that isn't eternal in some way. But it's even harder to imagine it being created - because then the creator must have been created, and so on, and you haven't solved the problem.

obviously you now figure out why no one can decide on something
i personally fill that hole with god
and just say he started the process with the big bang
but other theories state that a multidimensional plane existed and when two of them collided our universe was created

I reckon someone farted which blew a hole in the time fabric and thus created a universe!

Think i just made a new universe if not i'm in the sh!t! Literally!
