I am 35 weeks pregnant...I am on Medicad. So i do not know if it is just my doctor or Medicad. But my doctor is not very thorough at all.I have major swelling in my feet, around my eyes, and i have gained 8 pounds in 2 weeks. She says that i should drink more water( i drink about a gallon a day!) and put my feet up(I do for about 2 hours in the morning, and a couple right before i go to bed.) I am starting to get concerned it might be preeclampsia..Has anyone had these sysptoms and not had pre-e? Or should i try to go see another doctor? If i do have it, is it harmful for me and the baby or just me?? Please help me..

I can't answer your whole question but do see if you can get another doctor and don't worry about the ultra sound saying that your baby only weights a small amount one week before i had my son i had an ultra sound that said he would weight 6lbs 1oz six days later when i had him he weight 7lbs 11 oz

That's not very unusual. I'm assuming you're getting very little physical activity and eating heavily. You have a lot of extra weight now (the 8 lbs plus the baby weight) so that is why your feet are swelling. Your hormones are getting pretty crazy rignt now, so I wouldn't think about any of this, sounds all normal to me! You're close to the finish line so it will all be back to normal soon. But if you really have doubts and it seems that bad, see a second doctor or someone else for another opinion.

The fluid could be due to excess salt intake, you body will hold onto watter to counteract the salt. A lot of women retain fluid during pregnancy, but if your blood pressure is high as well the it may be time to worry. I'm also 35 week pregnant and has fluid issues with my feet a couple days ago. The heat, plus too much salt can cause you to retain water. Chances are that if you OB didn't fing it to be something to worry about, it probably isn't going to harm you or that baby.

I got preeclampsia when i was about 6 months pregnant with both of my children the swelling was in my hands and my feet and my blood pressure was a little high but both of my children came out perfectly healthy i would just watch your blood pressure because that is the main concern a little bit of swelling i think is normal this long in the pregnancy i dont really think you have to much to worry about

Any time you are not satisfied with your medical care, get a second opinion! It is not worth the stress of wondering, and you know your body best.
I had major ankle and feet swelling for the last two months, but never face. Not to scare you, but everything I've heard about face swelling usually points to pre-eclampsia. Here's the web page for the associated foundation, if you want to check, but I think you should find a medical professional to talk to right away...even if it means going to the emergency room. Better safe than sorry for you and for baby! Take care!

Pre-e is a VERY serious situation. It is somethign that you are usually put on bedrest for. It can definately harm you and your baby (not tryign to scare you). If I were you, I woudl get a second opinion. High blood pressure is usually a major sign of pre-e, so if you do not have that "symptom' your doc might nto be too worried abotu the swelling. Better to be safe than risk something happening though, right?
Good uck and go get checked out.

Go to a different doctor. It would be harmful to both you and the baby. I had a small cause of preeclampsia with my first son. But it was to the end of carrying him. But even it at the end I had to go into the doctors every day to make sure everything is ok

If you are that concerned about it. Go to the hospital and get looked at. You have medicaid so you do not have to pay for it. Say that your feet hurt and the swelling is worse and they will do all the tests to make sure you are o.k. This all happened to me and the high blood pressure. It was as they say normal. But everyone is different. But the hospital will check you all out and do a ultra sound. good luck

Okay, I actually had pre-eclaspsia leading to induction with my first child (who was just fine and is now 5, btw)/
Although fluid retention is an issue, the biggest concern is your blood pressure. If that's not really high, you're probably OK.
But, for the sake of your peace of mind, maybe you should see another doctor, 'cause that weight gain is a little troubling.

How has your blood pressure been.....that an urine tests are what they look for. The swelling CAN be a sign...but it can also just be 'normal'. My MD suggested putting my feet in cold water when I was pregnant (actually, he said the ocean---because here in New England it IS cold) and that would encourage the fluid back up the leg......interesting! Stay away from the salt too!
And weight gain can totally fluctuate!
