I think it's pretty clear that Canseco was telling the truth. I don't think that steroid use went way back to the 70s, but I'm sure it started in the late 80s, and then really took off into the 90s. If you look at some old stats, the numbers really didn't start getting crazy until 1992 of '93. Canseco mentioned McGwire and Palmiero in "Juiced", and Palmiero tested positive, and McGwire declined to answer when testifying. Canseco also said Ivan Rodriguez took 'roids, and now Rodriguez is much smaller than he used to be. Like him or not, Canseco didn't make that stuff up.

yes but Steroid use was only in the 90's. The 80's were cocaine, and the 70's marijuana.

I don't think there was a cover-up, per se. A cover-up implies that they had specific knowledge of steroid use. I think it was closer to willful ignorance - that is, refusing to investigate any allegations of use, then saying that they'd never found proof.

i would have to say yes...the MLB had to have been covering it up...the prob didnt just start ...it been around for ages.
