I was diagnosed with pcos/type 2 diabetes when I was 16. They tried to regulate with birth control, but it didn't work. They had me on a high dosage of glucophage for a few years, but it just killed my stomach. It worked great. Now i'm on a combo of fortamet ER and Aldactone. I gained a lot of weight off the meds. Does anyone know how the combo will effect me? I've heard everything from my acne and hirituism clearing up, to swollen breasts and frequent urination. Any help?

I can't answer on the Glucophage and its generic equivalent metformin but I can on the Aldactone. I have taken it off and on for about 10 years to help with the water retention caused by the PCOS. I have not been able to take it again due to situations beyond my control and am going to talk to my dr about possibly trying something else for a while because of those situations beyond my control.

Something that I learned about the Glucophage from my mom (she took it to try and control the Diabetes she has) was that you have to have huge meals to make sure it doesn't upset the stomach. She wasn't able to do that and it upset her stomach a lot also caused a tingling sensation in her thighs every time she took it.

I also wanted to mention that women with PCOS are prone to having problems with their thyroid as well as being at risk for osteoporosis because of the lack of menstrual periods that we often run in to.

The Aldactone will help on some level with the excess hair growth. As for the acne, I found that taking prenatal vitamins did a better job for me. I have never been pregnant but I did check with my dr to make sure it was safe for me and she said it was. I've been doing this for 7 years now.

As for the frequent urination ask them to check to see if you have a urinary tract infection that could be causing this. If it's not another possibility that could be playing in to this for you is a condition called Interstitial Cystitis or even a kidney issue.

Unfortunately because Aldactone is a water pill it will be making you go to the bathroom even more to get rid of the excess water your body is holding on to.

I would recommend getting an opinion from an endocrinologist on this issue if you haven't already.

I have taken metformin for 10 years, one thousand mg two times an afternoon. The simplest facet outcome I have is diarrhea. I have household contributors that take metformin and that's the major facet outcome they have got as good. Metformin is likely one of the most secure medicines to take for diabetes and one of the crucial few so that they can enable you to be in a position to drop pounds when you wish to take a look at.
