multiply the bottom equation by 3 and add it to the top equation to get: 6y=27, so y=9/2 and to get x substitute the y-value into the second equation and solve.

3x - y = 7

Multiply the 2'nd equation by 3.

-9x + 3y = 6
9x - 3y = 21 Add them together

0x + 0y = 27

Oops...... This one doesn't -have- a solution ☺

y= -7 + 3x

-9x + 3(7 + 3x) = 6
-9x - 21 + 9x = 6
- 21= 6
