I live in Manitoba and the mosquitoes are slightly smaller than the size of a black ant.
Maybe in movies, giant mutant mosquitoes can carry of dogs.

It actually takes 7-8 to carry a small dog. Sometimes 20 or so will come in at once, and suck the dog dry, though. No blood left at all...

I took a mosquito ride home once. Seriously. She was nice.Left her a tip, and all (a small dog, actually). :-)

You should see them attack a moose. They use the antlers to swat the mosquitoes away. Not a pretty sight.
